Nokia has agreed to acquire Fenix Group, an Enlightenment Capital portfolio company, for an undisclosed sum as part of efforts to expand its portfolio of wireless offerings for defense customers.
Fenix Group is a privately held company focused on developing 3rd Generation Partnership Project-based tactical communications systems that support military applications by delivering low-latency, high-speed data connectivity to devices and users, Nokia said Tuesday.
Fenix’s products include the Banshee family of 4G network-in-a-box offerings and a MANET device called Talon.
“The acquisition of Fenix Group is an important milestone in our strategy to grow our defense business,” said Tommi Uitto, president of mobile networks at Nokia.
